Jo Hawkins

Associate Assistant Principal & Head of Religious Studies & EPC

Joanna started her career as a specialist in theology, philosophy, and ethics teaching Years 7 to 13. For most of her career she has taught in faith schools and is a senior team leader in both GCSE and IGCSE exam boards.

She has a wide experience in education and is very versatile as she has spent many years working in pastoral as Head of Year, Progress Leader, Head of House and Assistant Head of behaviour. However, her passion and interest lie strongly with theology, which prompted her in 2015 to become Curriculum Leader of Religious Studies. Joanna has whole-school responsibility for the implementation of SMSC, including Student Voice, Student Council and building stronger relationships between the school and the wider community.

Joanna joined the Hanson community six years ago and, in this time, has created a successful, high achieving department in which students obtain high GCSE grades, and for the last few years Religious Studies has held the highest-ranking progress 8 score within the school. She enjoys the challenge of maintaining this status and helping to shape our students into empathetic and tolerant members of our diverse society.
