Sam Sheedy

Principal

Having volunteered in primary schools during his BSc at The University of Leeds and supporting the education outreach program, Mr Sheedy had an early introduction to the education sector. He completed teacher training in Birmingham in 2004.  He then spent two years teaching at an inner London comprehensive school before completing an MSc in Engineering Geology and returning to education the next year. With this bedrock of study, he then worked in 2 other London Secondary schools.  Roles of responsibility held included: Head of Geography, Curriculum Leader for Social Sciences, Director of Key Stage 3 and then Assistant Headteacher in 2015. In 2019, he then was asked to be the Vice Principal and DSL at the Gorse Academies Trust in Leeds.  Subsequently, he spent 2 years at Carlton Bolling Academy.  Both of these schools were ‘Outstanding’ and these four years really contributed to his understanding of academic excellence.  Having received such a warm welcome from the students, families and the community at Hanson, he feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to lead an academy with such a diverse cohort and rich history. With the exceptional support from the Delta Academies Trust,  Hanson is already an exceptional Academy with a very clear roadmap to ‘Outstanding’. Mr Sheedy is proud to be a part of that transformation.
