Sarah Welsh

Vice Principal

Sarah completed a 4-year Bachelor of Education Design & Technology Honours Degree at Sheffield Hallam University in 1997. Sarah was born in Bradford and wanted to teach locally. She began teaching at Hanson in 1997 as a newly qualified teacher. Within two years she was Head of D&T Department and within four years was Head of D&T Faculty at Hanson. At that time Hanson was a Technology College and Sarah’s passion for D&T led to her working for Specialist Schools Academy Trust (SSAT) as a Lead Practitioner for D&T alongside her role at Hanson. Through this role Sarah led D&T CPD nationally and supported other schools regionally to set up and develop their D&T provision, whilst continuing to lead and manage D&T in her own school and the Specialist School Status. In 2008 Sarah was promoted to Assistant Headteacher at Hanson and was responsible for school timetabling and curriculum. In 2014 Sarah was promoted to Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for Teaching and Learning at Hanson. She was later promoted to Senior Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for Curriculum and Assessment. During this time, she has worked with several Academies associated with Hanson. Following successful Academisation in July 2022 Sarah was appointed Vice Principal at Hanson Delta Academy. Although Hanson has had a lot of change Sarah remains passionate about Hanson and is fully committed to its staff, students, and community. Her nurturing approach, care, and ambition to provide staff and students with the best opportunities has enabled her to support school improvement. Sarah has loved every minute teaching D&T and working at Hanson for 26 years.
